Shot Types

Match on action
A match on action shot is when something is happening in a scene then there is a cut but the same piece of action is still going on. For example, if yousee a shot of a character opening a door from behind and then the next shot is from the other side of the door where the character is walking through, then this is match on action. This is an example of continuity editing and it is very important in helping   the audience to understand what is going on at all times.
How will we include match on action in our film?
The match on action shot will take place when the mum opens the door to the living room and tells the babysitter to sit down. There will be a shot from behind of the mum opening the door and then it will cut to a shot of the mum and the babysitter walking through the door. The action from the previous frame will match the action in the following frame but from a different angle.

Shot-Reverse Shot
A shot-reverse shot is when one character is shown looking at another and then that character is thenshown looking back at the first character. Because the characters are shown looking in opposite directions, the viewer assumes that they are looking at each other.
How will we include shot-reverse shot in our film?
The shot reverse shot will take place when the mother and the babysitter are exchanging the few lines of dialogue. the shot will cut from one character to the other to indicate that a conversation is occurring between the two of them.

180 Degree Rule
The 180-degree rule states that two characters (or other objects) in the same scene, must have the same left/right relationship to each other. For example, if one character is on the left side of the shot they should always face the right and vica versa. This rule is applied so that the audience do not get disorientated or confused about the characters positions whilst watching the scene.
How will we include the 180 degree rule in our film?
The 180 degree rule will be used in our film again whilst the mother and babysitter are having the conversation. The camera will be on the left behind the mum and then on the right behind the babysitter so that the mum will be on the right side of the screen and the babysitter will be on the left side of the screen when the film is being viewed.
