Target Audience

The target audience for horror films is predominately people in their late teens and early 20's (15-25). Sometimes even going as far as being aimed specifically at men within this age category. This is because men are more likely to be able to interact with the characters on screen. Women are still able to interact with the characters but they react in a different way.
Many horror films have an age restriction of 18 on them which immediately rules out a chunk of the target audience, however the film companies anticipate that because of the age restriction those too young to watch it will want to see it even more because they're not allowed to thus creating more of a hype.
